Marzipan

Ada, the widow of esteemed theater personality Shmuel Hammerschlag, is working on preparations for a commemorative evening in his honor.

Her excitement turns to despair when she realizes that the event might not take place due to her financial struggles.
Rachel Bloch, a retired actress and the deceased man’s former lover, offers to fully sponsor the event; but in exchange, she demands to be given center stage.
Ada is torn between her desire to host the glittering event and shine in it, and the disgust she feels toward her old enemy.
The two divas launch into a vicious battle over the memory of the dead, raising all the demons of the past in the process.

Reviews

Haaretz:

"The themes of the play appear here as a series of small tastings from a rich and generous feast… The main course is Koenig - a tremendous actress and a unique personality… performing with the physical and emotional energy of a young woman who has just graduated from drama school, as if this were her very first role."

Poenta:

"Marzipanim at Habima is the kind of production that evokes a wide range of reactions and emotions from the audience - from bursts of laughter to moments of reflection and compassion. It is one of the most recommended plays today… The plot and the direction, and even the intimate theater hall in which it is performed, create a unique viewing experience."
