Bat Yam – Tykocin
A co-production with the Wrocławski Teatr Współczesny in Wroclaw.
The co-production Bat Yam – Tykocin examines the complex and charged relationship between Jews and Poles during the period after World War II, as they are portrayed to the younger generation of both peoples. The play Tykocin tells the story of a Polish newspaper editor in Warsaw, who sets out for the village Tykocin to investigate someone suspected of intending to give one of the women of the village “the sign the Righteous”, hiding a dark secret. Research conducted in the village confronts him with the local residents, during which demons of the past reemerge. The play Bat Yam describes the story of three generations of one Israeli family, who travel to Poland in search of their roots. During their stay they come to the village Tykocin. Their encounter with the villagers induces a sharp conflict as their cause to regain their family fortune stolen by the Poles is discovered. This is the first meeting of its kind between two shows from Poland and Israel – each complimenting the other, and performed in both countries.
